Get Involved to Help Us Meet the SECU Challenge
The State Employees Credit Union has generously offered to a challenge gift for the final stage of our campaign. SECU will match every dollar spent (up to $500,000) to help us raise our final million dollars to complete the project. Here are some ways you can help us meet our goal and create a new shelter for survivors in our community.
One of the most significant ways volunteers can support families and children living in the presence of domestic violence is to expand awareness about the needs across our community, to educate community members about resources available to them and Helpmate’s work and impact, and to encourage others to become involved.
The depth and breadth of community engagement correlates directly to saving lives, reducing violence, and breaking the cycle of generational trauma.
As the need for services and support for survivors of domestic violence has increased, so have the services Helpmate provides directly to survivors. We are on the cusp of more than doubling the number of survivors to whom we can provide emergency shelter daily, which will save lives and create opportunities for new beginnings.
There are many ways you can get involved with this project, including:
-Telling your friends and family about the campaign
-Directing people in your life to our website to learn more
-Making a personal gift to the project
-Inviting Helpmate to speak at your civic, faith group, book club, business or other gathering to share information about the new shelter
-Sharing our posts on social media
-Hosting a Heart for Helpmate Event
Heart for Helpmate
We hope you will consider hosting a gathering to introduce others to Helpmate. These Heart for Helpmate gatherings provide a place where neighbors, supporters, and volunteers come together in a relaxed setting to learn about Helpmate and this project and explore ways to get involved. You can foster connections, inspire others to stand with you and on behalf of survivors, and help raise funds to complete the construction of the New Emergency Shelter.
